Breast Enlargement Surgery
Breast augmentation is a safe and proven cosmetic surgery. Individual factors such as the size of your chest wall, degree of skin elasticity, and the droopiness of the breast along with personal preferences will help doctor Roham and you to determine your appropriate breast size, the location of the incision, and weather the implants will be placed on top of or underneath the chest muscle. Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis at our AAAHC certified surgical Center. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with the option for I.V sedation.
Breast enhancement can provide a more rounded, attractive bust line and a nicely balanced figure. There are a number of things to consider for your breast enlargement surgery. At his practice in San Clemente, doctor Roham takes time to discuss the following options with his patients:
Types of Breast Implants
Currently we have three types of implants at our disposal. Silicon, Saline, and your
own harvested fat. Breast implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Doctor Roham uses saline, silicone, and Fat implants in his practice. Size of breast implantsis measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and determines the volume of the implant; the higher the volume the bigger the implant. The profile, is the appearance of the shape of the implant from the side. High profile breast implants produce a rounder appearance and more outward projection better for those who have loose or droopy skin or women that desire more projection. Moderate profile breast implants create a more natural shape and appearance and are commonly used for those that have a tighter skin and smaller breast and wish for a more subtle natural look.
Position of Breast Implants
The position of breast implants, either above or beneath the pectoral muscles, will be determined at the time of your consultation with Dr. Roham. Generally if a patient has some minor drooping or loose skin envelope or has a good amount of skin thickness to cover over the implant, we will place implants over the muscle. If a patient is very slender or has very tight skin envelope then we will place the implant behind the muscle. In certain
groups of patients Dr. Roham will elect to use a dual plane approach where the top half of the muscle is covered by the implant and the bottom half is covered by the breast tissue.
Breast Incision Location
Dr. Roham acknowledges that scarring is a major concern for many who are considering breast augmentation so he offers a variety of techniques for implant placement to best suit the patient and their needs. The Breast augmentation incision may be placed in the armpit (transaxillary), around the nipple (periareolar), in the breast fold (inframammary), or through the navel (TUBA). Dr Roham will determine which of these incision locations is most appropriate for your body type, goals, and personal preference.
Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery
In most instances, Dr. Roham recommends a baseline mammogram before your surgery. Following breast augmentation, you must perform breast self-examination. If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking at least two weeks before your surgery. Aspirin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ibuprofen, and certain anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements can increase bleeding, so you should avoid taking these for at least 2 weeks before your surgery.
Your Surgical Experience
The surgery is performed at our state of the art AAAHC accredited surgery Center.
Medications are administered by our board certified anesthesiologist for your comfort during the procedure. The procedure is performed using local and twilight anesthesia. The procedure generally takes one to two hours; when surgery is completed you will be taken into a recovery area where you will be closely monitored. You may be permitted to go home after a few hours.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
During breast augmentation recovery, patients commonly experience temporary swelling, bruising, numbness, and discomfort but this will quickly disappear. Pain medication can be prescribed to help relieve pain during your recovery. Dr. Roham will fit you with a support bra the following day after the surgery which you will wear for the next four to six weeks. Most San Clemente / Orange County breast implants patients can return to work and normal activities in one to two weeks. Cosmetic breast enhancement can make a woman feel more beautiful and confident.
