Chin augmentation is a simple procedure that addresses a weak chin. It is commonly done as an outpatient procedure at our fully accredited cosmetic surgery Orange County center. The chin implant insertion is made through an incision either inside the mouth or externally, under the chin. The implant, sized exactly to fit the patient, is placed in a pocket between the chin bone and the chin muscles and periosteum.

Chin implants are usually silicone based (Silastic) and the newer forms of chin implants called anatomical implants tend to have an extended appearance which happens to give a very natural look while creating balance and definition to all the facial features.

The ideal candidate for chin implant surgery is a patient with a receding chin but with teeth that align properly or a normal dental bite. Chin augmentation can be done as a stand alone procedure or as an adjunct to facial liposuction or facelift. While any implant material runs a risk of infection and consequently may need removal, it is very rare.
