Droopy upper eyelids and puffy lower eyelids are the first signs of facial aging noted by many people. These physical changes in the face may be interpreted by others as tired, angry, and uninterested. In today’s society physical appearance is important in meeting new people and also excelling in your work environment.
Blepharoplasty is a general surgical term that includes many different procedures all aiming to improve and rejuvenate the eyes. These procedure including laser skin resurfacing to remove fine lines, wrinkles and crappy skin, reducing the fatty bags of the lower eyelid, and removing the droopy skin over the upper eyelids and using fat and other fillers such as (Restylane, Juvederm,….) to replenish the hollows of the orbital area that occur with aging.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
This procedure is performed in our office under local anesthesia with the use of laser in order to minimize bleeding and optimize recovery. Using the CO2 laser, excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissue that tend to accumulate are removed from the upper eyelids through an incision that is hidden in the natural creases above the eyelids. The recovery from this procedure is minimal and stitches are removed in 5-6 days and the patient can resume normal activity within one week.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
The latest advances in Blepharoplasty involves conservative removal of herniated fat and replenishment of the lost volumes with your own body fat or dermal fillers (Restylane, Juvederm) in the hollows around the eyes to create a more youthful look and not a tight and operated one. For lower lids, we also use local anesthesia and remove the buldgy fatty tissue through a transconjunctival approach which means that the surgery is performed through the inside part of the eyelid so that no external visible scar is created. If there are any loose or saggy skin the laser is used to tighten and renew the skin.
Non surgical eye rejuvenation
This is a minimally invasive procedure that improves dark cirles, small lower lid bags, and hollows around he eyes with out surgery. This procedure can be done either with your own body’s fat or by synthetic fillers (Restylane, Juvederm) .
Fat is better for people that have thin skin or need a lot of volume and is performed by removing fat under local anesthesia from undesired location with a small cannula and replacing it back into face and round the eyes to recreate a smooth, natural and rejuvenated look.
Another option would be synthetic fillers, better suited for younger patients with thicker skin. Restylane and Juvederm are used to fill around the bags and in the hollow areas to create a smooth look from the eyes down to the cheeks.
